LYSETTE ANTHONY

Lysette Anthony has established herself as a talented and versatile actress and writer. Born in Fulham, South London, she made her first stage appearance at the Cambridge Theatre at the age of ten. By the time she was 14 she had been accepted into the prestigious National Youth Theatre. Heralded as the face of the Eighties by David Bailey at the age of 16, Lysette was a highly successful model before she became a household name as an actress at the age of 20.

Perhaps best recognised in comedy, Lysette has worked with legends including, Morecambe & Wise, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Sid Caesar, Blake Edwards, Mel Brooks and Woody Allen. In the 80's she starred for 3 years in the still repeated BBC sitcom Three Up, Two Down.

Most recently on stage, Lysette appeared at the New End Theatre, and at The Hackney Empire studio in Talk to me Like the Rain, a little performed Tennessee Williams play. The Times said of her performance that she “compels’. The Stage: “Lysette Anthony, an actress of classic beauty, gives an emotionally wrought performance, the most committed I have seen in this much-acclaimed, intimate venue.'

Last year she was nominated for a Manchester Evening News Award for Best Actress in a supporting role as ‘Myra Arundel’ in the Manchester Royal Exchange production of Noel Coward’s Hayfever, directed by Greg Hersov. She immediately followed with a no 1 tour of Alan Ayckbourn’s, Tons of Money.

Previous theatre work includes a sell out West End run and UK tour on The New Statesman, with Rik Mayall, directed by Josie Rourke.  Lysette also played opposite Simon Callow as Joanna Lypiatt in Michael Blakemore’s production of Present Laughter, before which she was seen as Eleanor in Matthew Lloyds’ 5 star reviewed production of Dead Funny at The West Yorkshire Playhouse. Other notable theatre credits include The Vagina Monologues at The Royal Albert Hall and the role of Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis in the Broadway transfer of Jackie at the Queens Theatre, the lead in 23:59 at The Crucible, Sheffield, Toys In the Attic at Watford with Hayley Mills, Restoration at Bristol Old Vic, The Lady’s Not For Burning at the Northcott Theatre, Exeter and Ibsen’s Ghosts at the Shaw Theatre.

Well-known to television audiences, Lysette recently returned to Hollyoaks as Yvonne Summers. Other current television appearances include guest lead roles in Casualty, Doctors, and a new sit-com pilot, Baggy Trousers. She also played the roles of Rachel Heath for 18 months in The Bill and Veronica Cray in The Hollow, a two-part Poirot film for ITV, with David Suchet. Other credits include 248 episodes of the award winning soap Night & Day, Murder in Suburbia for ITV, Hotel for Channel 5, BBC’s Jonathan Creek, Oliver Twist, Dombey & Son, Campion, Lovejoy and ITV’s Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Lysette’s extensive work in over thirty feature films includes Woody Allen’s multi award winning Husbands & Wives, Mel Brook’ Dracula: Dead & Loving It, Look Who’s Talking Now with John Travolta, Without a Clue with Michael Caine & Ben Kingsley. Further film credits include: Farewell to Harry, The Loch with Patrick Bergin, Russell Mulcahy’s Talos the Mummy with Gerard Butler and Christopher Lee Dr Jekyll and Ms Hyde with Sean Young, The Hour Of the Pig starring alongside Colin Firth and The Lady & The Highwayman with Hugh Grant.

Lysette has just completed the lead in the award winning Saam Farahmand's first   Film, Study After Cruel Intentions for release in 2010 and the Beth Ditto, Simian Mobile Disco music video of the same name. (video of 'Cruel Intentions" may be seen on SHOWREEL page)
